TAMPA — Brayden Point scored twice and added an assist to lead the Tampa Bay Lightning past the reeling New York Rangers 6-2 on Saturday night. Nikita Kucherov added a goal and two assists for Tampa Bay. Anthony Cirelli and Ryan McDonagh each had a short-handed goal.

One thing is certain, the Lightning aren’t apologizing for a 6-2 win on Saturday. On a night where a struggling New York Rangers team came to town, the Lightning still knew they needed to clamp down early.

The Lightning have returned from the NHL’s mandated holiday break with one more back-to-back to end the month of December. They’re coming off a 4-0 shutout win against the Florida Panthers on Monday night and are hoping to continue building momentum before starting a jam-packed month of January.

The New York Rangers were pounded 6-2 by the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night at Amalie Arena. The Rangers lost a lopsided game despite peppering Andrei Vasilevsky with 44 shots.
