The NWS says a series of weather systems will bring an estimated 2 to 6 inches of rain to western Washington through Wednesday. Officials say urban and small stream flooding is possible for areas with poor drainage, and saturated soils are at increased risk for landslides and debris flows.

Portions of western Washington state have experienced a month’s worth of rain within the past few days, causing historic flooding, damaging mudslides and more than 100,00 people facing potential evacuations.

The Army Corps of Engineers was able to reduce flooding on the Skagit River with emergency operations of two hydropower dams upstream.

A century-old Skagit River dike is holding as 75,000 residents remain under evacuation orders. Officials warn flood risks will continue into Saturday morning.

Cowlitz River below Mayfield Dam also remains under flood warnings on Tuesday, “until further notice,” as the river flow has risen above 25,000 cfs—the flood stage threshold. Flooding is expected from Mayfield Dam downstream through Toledo, covering farmlands and roads, mainly near Toledo, as flows stay near 29,000 cfs through Wednesday.

BNSF Railway crews worked over the weekend to repair flood-damaged sections of the railroad in Washington state, which was hit by record rainfall last week. Some areas of western Washington and Oregon received 10 to 17 inches of rain,
